Feeding your Dog for Behaviour

Physical Needs and Behaviours:

Dogs are hunters. This means that they are genetically disposed to “finding” food. So having their food served to them once or twice a day “on a platter” can result in boredom.

They are also predisposed to chewing, crunching and ripping their food and the lack of such effort and time can also lead to some boredom and destructive tendencies.

This applies to any dog breed, whether it is a Chihuahua or a Rottweiler!!

Typical Traits of the Dog:

Dogs are predators, scavengers and opportunists. They can digest anything from meat, bones, offal, to vegetables and rotten fruit. They will eat rotting meat and vegetation with delight and will also eat faecal matter – a perfectly natural behaviour!

Your dog therefore is a true survivor. Its opportunistic eating habits have enabled them to survive in the wild and urban areas for hundreds of years and this instinctive behaviour still remains. Their natural tendency towards variety still applies today.
